SHOPIFY SPARE PARTS CATALOG
Shopify spare parts catalog, built as a theme app extension.
Partsy adds an interactive exploded parts diagram to your Shopify product pages. A shopper clicks part 14 on the diagram, sees its photo and part number, and buys it from your own product page — without leaving your store.
Why an exploded diagram beats a specification table.
Someone repairing a machine does not know your part number. They know which component failed and roughly where it sits. A specification table forces them to guess; a clickable exploded diagram lets them point at it.
Partsy turns the diagram you already have into an interactive product catalog: numbered callouts, a photo per part, and one tap to the product page that sells it. It is the same diagram you publish in a manual, promoted to the moment of purchase.
What the Shopify integration actually is.
- Packaged as
- Theme app extension — blocks/ and snippets/, deployed with the Shopify CLI
- Installed by
- Enable the app embed block once, add the product app block once in the theme editor
- Product mapping
- Metafields
partsy.productandpartsy.model - Credential
- Publishable key, stored in the app embed settings
- Renders on
- Any Online Store 2.0 theme, product template unchanged
Install it in five steps.
- Add the extension to your app. Drop the supplied
partsy/folder into your theme app extension and deploy withshopify app deploy. - Enable the app embed. In Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds, turn on Partsy Catalog and paste your publishable key. It lives here, not in theme code, so rotating it needs no theme edit.
- Add the product block. On the product page, Add block → Partsy Catalog. One block serves every product.
- Map each product. Fill the
partsy.productandpartsy.modelmetafields with the values shown in Partsy. - Publish. The block reads the metafields and emits one container element; the SDK renders the diagram into it.
What the product block emits.
The theme side is deliberately tiny, which is what keeps it safe on a live store. All the logic lives in the Partsy SDK:
<div data-partsy-catalog
data-product="Drill Machine"
data-model="BH-123"></div>
Product and model are matched server-side and tolerantly, so BH123 and bh-123 reach the same diagram as BH-123.
What it does not do.
It needs Online Store 2.0. Older vintage themes without app blocks cannot host it; those stores use the plain storefront snippet instead.
It does not restructure your catalogue. Partsy renders the diagram inside the product page you already have. Collections, variants, checkout and fulfilment are untouched, and no product data is copied into Partsy.
Part images and buy links stay yours. The thumbnail and the View / Buy destination are configured per part, and can point at Amazon, Flipkart, a distributor, or your own product page.
Shopify spare parts catalog: common questions
Does the integration edit my theme?
No Liquid file is edited. It ships as a theme app extension: an app embed block you enable once, plus a product app block you add once in the theme editor. Both are settings, so a theme update does not wipe them.
How does a product know which diagram to show?
Two product metafields, partsy.product and partsy.model, hold the product and model exactly as they appear in Partsy.
Does the client secret go into my storefront?
No. The storefront uses a publishable key: read-only, and refused unless the request comes from one of your allowed storefront domains. A copied key does nothing on another site.
Which themes are supported?
Any Online Store 2.0 theme, because app blocks and app embeds are an Online Store 2.0 feature. That covers Shopify's current themes and most third-party ones.
